The first new work from Graham Macfarlane in 7 years, 'Beat Freak' is a one-man show that
will be premiering at this years's Edinburgh Festival from the 7th to the 20th of August.
Venue: Clubwest@Edinburgh Theosophical Society Building, Great King Street, Edinburgh.
The idea for the show came from a journal that Macfarlane kept between June 2001 and June
2002. This, together with various other writings and musings collected over the years,
forms the original source material from which the show is based. Some of this material
you can find under "Extracts from Beat Freaks" on the "Writer Writes" signpost. There
is also a copy of the first draft of the script for the show on the "Universal Taxi"
signpost.
Below is the 40-word copy that will appear in the Edinburgh Festival Guide:
It's 2001 and accompanied by King Solomon, Macfarlane the ginga travels from the
Isle of Wight, across Europe and into Prague. As he descends into madness,
narrowly avoiding being shot and raped, he searches for an "exit" sign.
'On the Road' for a post-911 geneartion.
